The inspiration for this work comes from my own childhood experiences—growing up under the care of my grandparents, who gave me their time and shaped me as a person. While this project does not focus on them directly, my connection to them is what drew me to explore aging as a theme so deeply.
In Poland, aging is fraught with challenges due to a lack of adequate infrastructure and support. We live in a society that is aging rapidly and often seems to marginalize those who have lived the longest. Through my photographs, I try to explore this issue on a personal level—looking at the struggles, but also the moments of peace, tenderness, and presence in the lives of older people.
Photography allows me to feel and think simultaneously. Every image I create is an attempt to capture what is fleeting: a smile, a gesture, a glance that conveys more than words ever could. My aim is to bring honesty into these images—towards myself and the people whose stories I tell.
This project is about connection and responsibility. It reflects on what it means to be human—both in relation to others and in confronting our own aging. I hope these photographs serve as an invitation to reflect on the passage of time, our attitudes toward old age, and the kind of world we are shaping for when we, too, grow old.
